WHAT: "Godspell," presented by Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts.

THE PLAY: Based on the "Gospel According to St. Matthew," and featuring a scintillating score by "Wicked" composer Stephen Schwartz, "Godspell" takes the audience on a journey of building a community using contemporary versions of parables from the Bible. The show's recent revival on Broadway has renewed interest in the show, particularly with its message about growth in a creative community. It boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit "Day By Day" and also includes "Beautiful City," "By My Side" and "God Save the People." The updated score takes the original 1971 musical and adds rock, reggae and soul.

PLAYERS AND PRODUCTION STAFF: Director Joe Sniegocki states that Harrison's production "has been a beautiful experience of collaboration with the cast creating many of the versions of the parables, exciting choreography by Laurel Renfroe, and an updated score directed by (musical director) Suzi Lambert.

The players feature Spencer Croy as Jesus, Samuel McBride as Judas and company members Remell Bowens, Nova Burke, Cali Colbert, Jordan Dean, Alicia Erickson, Claire Fleitz, Erin Gillespie, Marcus Hartfield, Mackenzie Hatch, Courtney Jones, Holden Jones, Morgan Kendrick, Madyson Miller, Hailey Potts, Mary Beth Ritter and Ana Saavedra.

WHEN: The production runs this weekend only, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

WHERE: Harrison School for the Arts, 750 Hollingsworth Road, Lakeland.

TICKETS: $10 adults, $8 students and seniors. Available by going to www.harrisonarts.com and clicking "tickets" or purchasing at the box office beginning one and a half hours prior to each performance.
